Salt Lake murder suspect a familiar face in Belize | The Salt Lake Tribune

Posted December 29, 2010
Salt Lake murder suspect a familiar face in Belize | The Salt Lake Tribune: "Jules Vasquez recognized the man in the photograph right away.

'It’s Big Tom,' he said. 'Absolutely, 100 percent.'

Kenneth Lewellyn Flowers, 33, sits in Salt Lake County Jail, charged with shooting and killing a man in a Main Street apartment on Dec. 18.

Prosecutors have also charged him with being a restricted person in possession of a firearm, because he was twice been deported to Belize.

That’s how Vasquez, a reporter in Belize City, recognized him. For the better part of a decade, Kenneth 'Big Tom' Flowers was known as an enforcer for a once-prominent Belizean street gang — a usual suspect for police officers, someone who knew about life on both sides of the gun.

'He was notorious,' said Vasquez, who has covered the city’s gang problems for 7 News in Belize. 'I knew him as a hitman. He was a gun for hire.'

In 2002, Flowers was shot in the chest but refused to cooperate with police in an investigation, according to Belizean media reports. He was charged with shooting and killing a man in front of a mechanic’s shop just two days later, though he was never convicted on the charge."

MS-13 gang member to be tried as adult in execution-style slayings of Long Island woman, son

MS-13 gang member to be tried as adult in execution-style slayings of Long Island woman, son: "feds are prosecuting a teen gang member as an adult in the execution-style slayings of a young Long Island woman and her 2-year-old son, the Daily News has learned.

A Salvadoran member of the notorious MS-13 gang, who was 17 years old at the time, lured a mother and her child to a Central Islip industrial park last February and, in the coldest of cold-blooded murders, they were shot in the head, the feds say.

A judge gave prosecutors the unusual go-ahead to bring murder in aid of racketeering charges against the thug - similar to what they would slap a mobster with for carrying out a hit, court papers reveal."

Violent gang member shot to death by police - National Violent Crime | Examiner.com: "Oakland police say that he was driving en route to target rival gang members.

Police say that there were three other people who were inside the vehicle. One of those three was captured at the location and was, then, taken into police custody, but was released later on. As for the other two suspects, they fled after the wreck, which followed a short highway pursuit. The crash occurred in East Oakland Monday.

The teen that was fatally gunned down by two Oakland police officers has been identified as 19-year-old Obataiye Edwards of Oakland. Edwards was the one who wielded a gun at the officers, leading them to shoot him, according to authorities. Reportedly, he was also a member of a fierce West Oakland gang.

Cops say that the vehicle that the suspects occupied was a Lincoln sedan, and when police looked into the trunk of the car, they discovered a loaded SKS-style assault rifle.

Police say that the hot pursuit started at approximately 1:30pm Monday after cops received a report regarding four affiliates of a faction, known as the “PT Gang,” who have made arrangements on targeting associates belonging to the rival gang, known as “Acorn.”"

Gangland widow takes stand

Posted February 17, 2011
"For more than two weeks Judy Moran has listened as the Crown outlined its case against her; alleging she drove the gunman to and from the scene, disposed of clothing afterwards and that she dumped the alleged get-away vehicle.

Today she walked to the witness box with the aid of a cane, to appear as the first witness in her own defence.

She recalled the shooting deaths of her two sons Mark and Jason and then her ex-de facto husband Lewis Moran.

She told the Court how she always considered them dead but not gone and continued to talk to them from a makeshift shrine in her backyard.

She told the Court that right up until his own violent death in 2004 Lewis Moran continued to pay her bills and to give her $2,000 a month. 'If I needed clothing or anything' she said 'he'd give me more.'

After Lewis Moran was gunned down his brother started giving Judy Moran money. She told the Court it was a couple of thousand dollars on a few occasions but usually just a couple of hundred every three to six months.

Judy Moran says that six months before he was killed, her brother-in-law, who she calls 'Tuppy', ran out of money. He told her he planned to sell a bull to buy her a new car but the bull escaped its enclosure and got hit by a truck."

'137th Street Crew,'Gang Case Arrests Are Made,2 Mafia Family' and 'Goons on Deck' gangs

Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang MemberGang Case Arrests Are Made - WSJ.com: "arrested 14 alleged gang members who they charged had held their central Harlem community 'hostage' by conspiring to turn it into a drug zone using guns, beatings and intimidating fellow members from cooperating with police.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. announced the indictments of 14 members of a street gang called the '137th Street Crew' on Wednesday.

Known as the '137th Street Crew,' the gang of mostly teenagers was a collaboration between the '2 Mafia Family' and 'Goons on Deck' gangs, according to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance. He said the gangs operated on 137th Street between Lenox and Seventh avenues.

'The gang over years created an environment where residents lived in a state of fear, waiting for the next gunshot, or the next drug deal or the next act of violence,' Mr. Vance said. He said defendants recruited children under 16 to haul guns, transport drugs and participate in shootings, and used young women to 'move firearms to reduce the likelihood of guns being detected by authorities.'"

Clay Roueche Says he was "Disappointed to Get a 30-Year Sentence

Gang Nation: Delinquent Citizens In Puerto Rican, Chicano, And Chicana NarrativesClay Roueche Says he was "Disappointed to Get a 30-Year Sentence - The Real Scoop: "convicted founder of the United Nations gang is hoping Judge Robert Lasnik will reduce his jail time Tuesday when he returns to a Seattle courtroom to be sentenced for the second time on drug smuggling charges.

Roueche's lawyer Sheryl Gordon McCloud has filed a 29-page sentencing memo, arguing forcefully against a repeat of the 30-year term Roueche was handed in December 2009. She said the U.S. Attorney has filed inflammatory and unsubstantiated information about Roueche and other members of the United Nations Gang. And it would be unfair if any of the material is used in Roueche's re-sentencing Tuesday, she said.

There are many new letters filed with the court - from Roueche's parents, from his sister, from his young daughters, from a former high school teacher and people who knew Roueche growing up.

But Roueche's letter is the longest - eight pages laying out his positive attributes and apologizing for his role in drug smuggling."

New book profiles the Black P. Stones gang in Chicago | WBEZ: "In the 1960s the Blackstone Rangers—later known as the Almighty Black P Stone Nation—dominated Chicago’s South Side. The street gang was something of a paradox - a mix of both legal and illegal activity. They managed to attract federal funding for social work but they also engaged in shakedowns and other acts of violence. These two sides of the gang would eventually come into conflict and send Black Stone leader Jeff Fort to his first of many prison stays. Fort remains in prison today but the legend and legacy of his gang continue."
